Description
A 100-prong bamboo chasen in the traditional Japanese style. The prongs are split from a single bamboo cylinder rather than assembled, which is what lets them flex, break up clumps and pull air into the bowl to build foam. A spoon cannot do this; a milk frother does something different and noisier.
Looking after it
- Soak the prongs in warm water for 30 seconds before the first use of the day — dry bamboo snaps.
- Rinse in warm water only. No soap, never a dishwasher.
- Dry on a whisk stand, not flat, or the prongs collapse inward and set that way.
Specification
- Approximately 100 prongs, natural bamboo
- Japanese-style form, made in China
- Height approx. 11 cm
With daily home use a chasen lasts roughly 4–8 months. Prongs eventually break — that is the tool wearing out as intended, not a defect, and it is why we sell them individually rather than only in sets.
